The island is named for the " Callitris endlicheri ", or black cypress pines, that grow locally.
The plant community at the Goobang Range locality is an open woodland dominated by " Callitris endlicheri " ( Black Cypress Pine ).
Since the bushfires, many fire-adapted species such as casuarina ( Allocasuarina verticillata ) and the native black cypress pine ( Callitris endlicheri ) have recovered strongly.
It also supports white cypress pine ( " Callitris glaucophylla " ) on lower slopes, with black cypress pine ( " Callitris endlicheri " ) common on upper slopes and ridges.
"Prostanthera stenophylla " is found in sclerophyll forest dominated by black cypress pine ( " Callitris endlicheri " ), snappy gum ( " Eucalyptus rossii " ) and Sydney peppermint ( " E . piperita " ), where it arises in sandstone outcrops, which are colloquially known as'pagodas '.
